There
are three types of cell entries in excel, values, labels and formula.
Values are numerical data and constants. Labels
are textual information. Formulas are mathematical
equations that perform calculations on data.
To
enter data into a cell, select an active cell type
the data then press the "Enter" or "Tab"
button to confirm the entry.

When
values are entered in a cell or group of
cells Excel automatically recognizes that
it is a number and formats the values so
they align to the right of the cell. Similarly
text is treated as a label unless specified
otherwise and is formatted to align to the
left of the cell by default.
A
formula describes a series of operations
that perform a calculation using data values
and mathematical operators. In order for
excel to distinguish a formula from a label
or value, formulas are always written with
an equals sign (e.g. "= 3.5+2" ). |
When
editing data that has already been entered retype
the new data into the cell, paste in the new data
or make changes in the formula bar
