Excel QuickSkills
Method I Vs Method II Scatter Chart
Does highlighting the x axis data affect how the Scatter Chart wizard INTERPRET the data in the column?

Scatter Chart

Method I (highlight both columns)
All data is automatically correlated and used to calculate axis characteristics. Labeling the columns has only superficial affect on the graph (serial label) but does not change the interpretation of the data.

Method II
(highlight y axis data then x axis)
The data is automatically correlated and axis automatically scaled. The label for the series is simple series 1" the excel default name for a series. The series is correctly names however because the x column is not labeled (in the table) the chart wizard correlated the X and Y data points.  Creating a chart of the disordered points with an appropriately scaled axis. The "data in the x column is ONLY used to calculate the max and min and a scale for the x axis. The X and the Y data points are not correlated. So the graph looks like a line chart. ( the letter x confuses the correlation algorithm in the chart wizard).
