Never change file names or move files between folders using the operating systems file management system.
Use the files panel in dreamweaver.
This allows dependent files to be updated as the associated files are moved. For example if you move a file to a new subdirectory all the relative links in that file must be updated to the new file path otherwise they will become corrupted and no longer function. When files are moved using the "files panel" in dreamweaver links can be redefined automatically when prompted.

Logging file management activity
Dreamweaver can automatically log all the changes you make in the file panel when performing file management tasks. This is especially useful when noting multiple changes that have been made to large groups of files.

Automatically saving image files
When you initially define your site dreamweaver ask you to set a default image folder. This folder is used to save all embedded image files so that when an image is inserted into a page it is automatically saved to a specific location in the site root without the need for the user to choose where it is to be saved each time.
