What Are Video Tutorial Maps?
QSLS are context driven application that maps out QuickSkills® into 2d space (Quantum Semantic Learning Space) using our Quantum Ziggy® semantic mapping engine. Video Tutorial Maps

In this environment users can quickly navigate through thousands of tutorials each connected via a semantic network of visual links. Every node can interacted with to show full length length video tutorials and knowledgebase articles. This multimedia rich space is scientifically designed to maximize the context of quickskills tutorials by graphically displaying degrees of separation between related concepts.

  • Context Driven: Semantic based mapping algorithm.
  • Interactive: On demand content, nonlinear navigation.
  • Multimedia Rich: Embedded, text, images, audio & video.

Since the videos are housed in an external database, the map itself works as a viewing application in the browser. This has the advantage of making it fast loading and light on CPUs enabling it to run efficiently on a standard pc with average connection speed. Each video is loaded on demand and streamed into the environment allowing multiple streams to be viewed or previewed simultaneously. This gives the user the freedom to resize and reposition content, zoom out of the map to gain a global perspective or zoom in to view content in detail without having to leave or reload the page.

Currently each map is created by quantunet for the courses. However in the near future we will be making a map builder available to subscribers so that teachers and instructors can build interactive multimedia teaching frameworks using our qsls engine.

There are three types of maps used for displaying video tutorials and knowledgebase articles in the quantunet library:

Application maps
Application maps use the all video tutorials and knowledgebase articles available in the quantunet library displaying all basic, intermediate and advanced resources in one map.

Course maps
Course maps only show the resources confined to a particular course for example introduction to animation only shows the video and knowledgebase articles listed in the "Introduction To Animation Course" and so would not include any drawing tutorials.

Module maps
Module maps are the smallest of the maps. They display only the videos listed in the module description creating a clear focus on a specific skill set.

The difference between each type of map is the source of tutorials that the algorithm uses to generate the map. The resulting maps can be used for a variety of purposes such as: exploring basic principles and skills surrounding a single topic, viewing skills from an entire category at the same time, following a theme or finding related skills that may not be immediately obvious.

Although each skill or knowledgebase article is arranged primarily in order of category, content nodes can also show cross links to directly related skills that are outside of a category. This can lead the user to common applications of the skill or show how the skill can be used as part of a series to create sophisticated projects.

How To Read Video Tutorial Maps
Each map is designed to show the hierarchy of concepts associated with video tutorials and the connections between them.

  • Connections: Lines between nodes show when they are closely related.
  • Node Size: Differences between the size of nodes show an order of hierarchy.
  • Node Shape: Communicates the type of content the node link to, oval is a category node, rectangular is a content node.
  • Node Color: The color of a node or connecting lines are use to group conceptual themes.
  • Node Content: Thumbnail images and descriptive text give the user a preview and explain content linked to the node.

Other basic principles have been taken into account to display information in a "natural" format making it intuitive to read.

  • Conceptual branches are arranged in a counterclockwise pattern. Starting in the top left corner of a branch.
  • Successive branches are read following a left to right top to bottom hierarchy.

How To Use Video Tutorial Maps

  • Zoom: Use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom in and out of the map.
  • Drag: Press and hold the left mouse button and drag to reposition the map.
  • Link To Video Tutorials: Double click on a node to follow a hyperlink to a video tutorial.
  • Quantum Leap: Hold down the "Ctrl" key and double click on a node to leap to the node automatically.

What Is QSLS?
QSLS stands for Quantum Semantic Learning Space. This is a learning environment specifically constructed for online multimedia tools. It follows the principles of Quantunet's "Quantized Learning" model and creates a visual framework for users to follow when navigating our multimedia learning tools. [Learn More].

Note: Flash player 9 plug in is required to view the map correctly.
